Fall is my favorite… the sunny and crisp weather is so refreshing to me. But since it’s still 80 degrees here, I need a little boost to get me feeling like it’s not summer anymore!
I added a couple of fall touches in our front entryway that literally took me a few minutes, and no extra money. Some friends came over and complimented me on it, so naturally… I had to share how ridiculously easy it was for me to do.
My goal is to decorate at little to no cost at all- and this next thing helped me to do just that. I saw a lovely display at the store with baby pumpkins in a vase and I thought to myself, “I have all those things at home!” Using a few baby pumpkins my mother-in-law gave me, I swapped out some of my vase filler for the pumpkins, keeping the pieces that still spoke “fall” to me, while storing away the more “summery” items. I really love the way it turned out! Check out the before and after below.
A side tip: to help the pumpkins last all season, clean them off and soak them in this solution: one tablespoon bleach mixed with a gallon of water. Let them sit in the solution for about two hours, then wash and dry thoroughly – they’ll sit pretty for a few months!
Next I found a free printable from My Blessed Life and put it in a large frame. Here are a few other free and adorable ones you can print yourself (or at your local print shop for a few bucks):
Beautiful Glorious Fall by Nest of Posies
Hello Fall by On Sutton Place
Autumn Subway Art by On Sutton Place
Fall is in the Air by heyhiblog
Fall Bucket List by Design Finch
The lovely Nena of YounFolded also nominated me for this cute Sweater Weather Tag. I’ve never done one of these before but I thought it would be fun to help me ring in the snuggly new season, by going over some of my “favorite things” for fall..
Favorite Candle Scent: Marshmallow Fireside, from Bath & Body Works.
Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate: Coffee! Tea makes me feel pretty cozy though.
What is the best fall memory you have? My husband proposed to me in the fall on the most gorgeous day in November two years ago. I remember the crisp weather so perfectly, and how the fall sunshine created the perfect glow for our special moment.
Best Fragrance for Fall: Personally I love Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb. It’s a cozy, sultry scent that is different than lighter perfumes I use in most other seasons. A little bit goes a looong way- I’m still using the same bottle my husband gave me years ago!
Favorite Thanksgiving Food: green bean casserole all the way.
What is autumn weather like where you live? It stays pretty warm until mid-October in our part of Washington state… but then it’s all crisp and sunny!
Most Worn Sweater: I have this merlot colored sweater cardigan from H&M that has elbow patches… (sigh) it is perfect.
Football games or jumping in leaf piles? Football games!
Favorite Type of Pie: Pumpkin for sure. But come thanksgiving, you’ll find me serving up dessert plates of “the works”- tiny pieces of pumpkin pie, apple pie, AND cheesecake with ice cream on the side. YASS. Anyone else do this??
Which makeup trend do you prefer, dark lips or winged liner? Dark lips- my favorite fall lipstick shade is “Dark Wine” from Wet n’ Wild- it’s also 99 cents! My go-to fall lipliner is Portside from MAC.
What song really gets you into the fall spirit? The NFL theme song! Carrie Underwood’s – “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night”
Is pumpkin spice worth the hype? It’s delicious, but I prefer to make my own, a more wholesome version with less sugar and zero chemicals.
Favorite Fall TV Show: Does football count?
Skinny jeans or leggings? Leggings all the way- I live for stretchy pants. I tried wearing jeans yesterday and I was so uncomfortable! I love my legging collection, they’re the best for tucking into cute fall boots.
Combat boots or Uggs? I have neither!
Halloween – Yay or Nay? Not into spooky things, but I love trick-or-treaters. My husband & I dressed up as “Salt & Pepper” last year (the actual spices, not the music duo) and trick or treaters who properly guessed our costumes received bonus candy!
Fall mornings or evenings? Evenings- I love the warm glow of a fall sunset.
What do you think about Black Friday? I’ll go out shopping most years- sometimes we just go as “spectators”. Crazy I know, but it’s entertaining and has been a nice way to walk off that huge Thanksgiving meal!
One Fall 2015 Trend You Love: Statement (faux) fur. I’m still looking for my perfect fuzzy vest.
After reviewing my favorites, I’m actually feeling more like it’s the fall season now! And next to nominate some of my favorite bloggers to do their own “sweater weather” tag:
Lindsay from Night Owl Knit & Crochet
Happy Fall y’all 🙂

Aww thanks Nena! You’re so sweet. That picture makes me teary- we used it for our save the date cards 🙂 I’m glad I can just use the same filler and change out a seasonal item like pumpkins! Good for our budget and our storage situation 🙂

Thanks for the nomination! I’m excited to share a little bit more about myself. I grew up in Washington State too – 45 minutes north of Seattle. I remember it being wet…. so very wet. I definitely miss the leaves changing, bundling up and enjoying a nice fire. 🙂

I loved the Fall in the Air picture you posted! That is such a smart idea to put it in a frame. We have a bare wall we still need to decorate somehow and that might be a cute addition. The pumpkins were also perfect, we have so many adorable pumpkins on sale at the store and I’m dying to decorate our apartment. I actually saw somebody use a pineapple instead of a pumpkin and carve it out. It probably makes for an amazing smell! Love your blog I look forward to reading more of your posts!

I literally have 15 little pumpkins all over my home (I don’t have a problem, I swear), and living in 90 degree San Diego, they die so quickly! Excited to try your preservation trick 🙂
